Days 2 and 3 were spent exploring the streets of Bali mostly via a van we rented. One of the very few to-dos on my list was to meet Ketut Liyer (again, slightly obsessed with Eat, Pray, Love) so I made sure I did. I was warned by my trusted friend, Google, that Ketut would probably just blurt out the exact same “fortune” to everyone. He sort of did. Similarities drawn from my apparently very bright-looking fortune and my mom’s and aunt’s were: that we were very pretty (repeated at least 10 times; not that I minded), that we will be rich, very successful, we’ll live to a 100, we will have two kids each and that our energies are very good. You sort of feel special and hopeful after he talks to you but comparing notes with other post-divination customers just makes you feel a little defeated. So yes, feel free to question how I spend my money. I kid. I just really wanted to meet him. I was half-hoping he’d see something special in me (like Liz) but he did not. I was just another tourist in Ketut’s eyes (this was typed with a sense of defeat, mind you.) Still, it was really nice being reinforced with highly optimistic forecasts. Those are always nice to hear. What he did tell me that he didn’t mention to others was that ‘my energy is connected to the energy of the Universe’ and I think that’s exactly what I needed to hear at the moment. But enough of my bright future.
The rest of the time was spent touring, checking out temples, dances, and other usual tourist destinations. I am very proud to say I turned adventurous at one single point when I tasted the Luwak coffee (coffee from Luwak poop; Luwak a sort of wild cat). Capped the 3rd night with a two-hour spa complete with a romantic rose petal bath for two…which I spent with my best friend (who is a girl and really only my best friend.) Why I am sharing this is unbeknownst to me but I really did find the whole situation funny, to say the least. All in all, I think we pretty much saw what had to be seen. I really would’ve wanted to try a yoga class or head to the other beaches but maybe I’ll reserve those wishes for my next visit.
Oh, I also ate tons of food, but that should go without saying. Back to regular Manila programming soon.
