Kylie Jenner and Rob Kardashian for Human Genes

Yesterday’s highlights include 1) asking Kylie Jenner a question and 2) professing my love for the Kardashians…in front of everyone.

Well, through someone else.

Human Genes held a press con yesterday to introduce their newest endorsers Kylie Jenner and Rob Kardashian. (For bells that aren’t going off just yet, they’re from Keeping Up with the Kardashians.) Controlling my being a fan-girl was ineffectual, really – the moment they walked out marking the beginning of a smile too wide it turned painful.

The interview was a joy to watch, with interviewer Ginger Conejero entertaining all of us with her quick-wit and humor. Not to mention the siblings being equally entertaining themselves.

Down-to-earth as their viewers have known them to be, they prefer jeans, casual shirts, and, well, for Rob, sweatpants all the way. Also, as someone who had two huge band-aid squares on my ankles to avoid both calluses and scrapes from my heel straps, I fell in love with the fact that neither of them are high heel fans. (Must take a cue from them and toss my heels out. Or maybe just the heaps of painful pairs I own.)

Sharing a few excerpts from the press con you might be interested to know: 1) Rob saying that their being relatable as a family is what makes them loved by their viewers 2) Rob exclaiming that the Filipinos are fashion-forward (a personal favorite!) 3) them sharing the things they are up to: Rob working on a clothing line and a sock line, Kylie working on a book and a clothing line with Kendall 4) how they are big fans of Human – with Rob apparently literally hoarding the pants & Kylie exclaiming “I think Human’s amazing, [I] love everything so far.”

And now, my favorite part – my own question for Kylie, through Ginger. Here go both question and answer.

Alyssa’s question: You have mostly been doing catwalks, editorials, endorsements with your sisters, most especially Kendall. What does it mean for you to be endorsing Human separate from her?”

Kylie: “I think it’s great! My sister’s going to Australia actually, and now she’s gonna do her own thing. I love working with her. But it’s just fun and a great experience to do stuff on your own and I think everyone should do stuff apart from their sisters. It’s great. I’ve been growing. I can grow and learn from this.”

Being able to have someone you watch, someone you are a fan of, answer a question by you is amazing. I’m this miniscule being but my questions are heard. It’s awesome. So yeah, definitely a highlight.

Oh about the other highlight – well, the question sort of had a “p.s. I’m a fan” added to it – voiced out by Ginger (to the audience comprised of journalists/bloggers – serious folks) in a way I would’ve done – shyly yet giddily, in a squeal ending with a giggle.

She nailed it.

Congratulations, Human Genes, Ben Chan and Lawrence Cua! You guys have done it again. Til the next!

Gold and Silver

I literally wrote at least 5 drafts already. None of them made much sense so based on this morning’s track record, this one might not either. Also, starting with a disclaimer has never really been my thing, but let’s both see how this goes. Wore gold and silver together (a no-no, really) as a rebellion of sorts against the fact that my best friend’s leaving for Guam again. I’d have pushed it and explained how it metaphorically signifies breaking boxes we put ourselves in and how my best friend’s positivity does the same, but that’s senseless unless you actually meet her. It just isn’t the same on screen. I also realized I wore sequins, heels, and layers of bling – two to be exact, but still one too many – to a quick Red Mango trip. Toned the look down fairly well with this overused Oxygen top. Going back to the whole supposed subliminally meaningful part – my gold and silver together- I must say I actually like it. Then again, their being miniscule – and consequently, not noticeable – is partially to blame. Must grab more thin stranded things. Oh and here’s my best friend coerced into taking an outfit shot (edit: which she made me delete). I suggest you find someone like her. She is a funny, self-help audiobook. Such a steal.

The Dark Side

Top, 7 FOR ALL MANKIND | Skirt, SM GTW | Clogs, CALL IT SPRING | Bag, RAGS2RICHES by ARANAZ | Necklace, vintage

Finding any excuse to dress up and lug my new Rags2Riches by Aranaz bag around. Even if that excuse happens to be as lame as pigging out in Mercato. Where/how I got this bag I’ll reserve for a different post, but still I am, obviously, way too eager to use it. The number of black skirts in my wardrobe is growing considerably with this most recent add-on from GTW – the side asymmetrical slit a breath of fresh air from all the mullets I run into at least once daily. Also, you might be interested to know it has occurred to me that black on black might be boring so I tried to keep it otherwise with several textures. You name it, I have it – crochets, knots, wood, sheer, cotton, chains. Name more and I’m disproved. Stopping myself now from declaring more theories/truths lest more be refuted. Til our next skeptical (but doesn’t have to be) encounter.

To the Universe

Mario shirt and maxi skirt, FOREVER21 | Platforms, RAJO! FOR PARISIAN

My fixation with character shirts ranges from superheroes to Super Mario. Tried to ‘sexify’ the little man, and well, myself, by only half-channeling Jolie’s slit and not at all her curves. So, that didn’t work out. Took out my new heels for a spin – these Japanese inspired platforms by Rajo Laurel for Parisian. This second collab of his with Parisan is amazing – with him successfully borrowing Japanese silhouettes/elements and translating that to an entire collection that I  – and I’m sure every other girl –  pretty much want to own. Taking this experience a step further and declaring to the universe a new dream: to do a collab with a brand, as inspired by Rajo. Not that I can actually come up with anything as magnificent (read:  detail-oriented, cohesive and gorgeous) but still, I dub it a new dream. Meanwhile, I’ll go back to impulse-buying character shirts, ogling beautiful heels and being tempted to double slit heights.

Top, FORME | Pants and oxfords, FOREVER21 | Bag, ABBY JOCSON | Show-off Necklace, LA SENZA | Cross and flower rings, CHARMING CHARLIE | Pointy 2 finger-ring, TWINKIES INC. | Ponytail, GOODY

My lipstick shade, Rebel – not to mention my all-black ensemble – turned out to be indicative of the mood I ended up in a few days ago – equal parts pissed, unruly and ready to riot. If lipsticks could just determine how one’s day would pan out, I’d readily amass shades called “Oh, Happy Day” or “Positivity” no matter how obnoxiously bright they may be. Luckily, despite the little annoyances that transpired that day, I still felt sorta fierce with this asymmetrical top from ForMe that generously caters to my perpetual need to show off my shoulder/collar bone. Because really, when you feel lousy, it always helps to look beautiful/cute/fierce/sexy/whatever look you’re trying to achieve. So prophetic or not, that single swipe of purple lipstick totally did the trick.

Candy Fair 2012

photos via and SM GTW

Updating you with what’s been going these past couple weeks – a lot. In this post, the Candy Fair. Keep in mind that the only fair I attended was 16 years ago (in 1st grade) where my sole memory is of me shooting mini hoops through coca-cola bottles. So Barney’s famous ‘legendary’ is apt to describe my second fair exposure. Walking the runway is not something I thought I’d do once, much less twice, but I did it again for SM GTW along with fellow bloggers/brand ambassadors Camille, Kryz, Lissa and Patricia during last week’s Candy Fair.

I am quite the worry-wart, to be honest. But hours spent jumping up and down to wash out my nerves turned worthwhile (if you can call it that) thanks to the ever-supportive Candy girls who made my walk amazing a feeling. A huge sigh of relief was spent thanks to me not tripping on stage. The whole experience actually was amazing – imagine a Megawide tent of screeches for every Candy cutie that appeared, but more importantly, a hoard of Candy cuties backstage free for ogling. I kid.

I had so much fun during the Candy Fair. Thank you so much to the ff: SM GTW for another amazing opportunity, Candy for having us, Alyanna Martinez and team for my styling, Francis for my hair and Chuchie Ledesma for the make-up (both hair and MU I grossly didn’t want to wash). And of course, thank you thank you thank you to the Candy girls for the love and support. You guys are awesome. 😉 Til the next!
